As you can see, I am enjoying my phone's camera feature. Mostly I end up taking cat pictures. I trust you all see nothing wrong with that...

If you can see this, post a picture of a cat in your journal. Read here to find out why.

A certain site that I will not name or link to (for clearly this is a cheap publicity stunt that I prefer not to reward in such a fashion) has declared tomorrow, 9/09/2009, to be a "Day Without Cats" on the Internet.
This is so appalling that I have no words for how appalling it is.
So I say we fight back! Tomorrow, post a picture of a cat in your journal. Or reply to someone else's picture of a cat with a picture of a cat. Or both! The more, the better. We will not be defeated.

So far, a quite enjoyable trip. Flight was delayed by over an hour and a half but was otherwise uneventful -- I think I even slept a little. I got in around 9am, and then we left for our road trip to Vermont, where we had much yummy ice cream and cheese and maple sugar candy. The sun eluded us for the morning, but around lunchtime the clouds cleared and we found ourselves experiencing a lovely summer day -- we even got to take down the top of the convertible while we tooled around Waterbury. Then we got home late and crashed.
Today was a lazily-exploring-Boston day: pancakes for breakfast, pedicures, walking around downtown, having tea at the public library -- they have a really nice cafe where they serve afternoon tea; it was tasty, if a little heavy on the sweets as opposed to the savories. This evening, we met up with
concertinette and her husband for dinner, and then they came back to
amybang's for some excellent hanging out and chatting and playing with the kittens. Did I mention the kittens? There are two, they are nine months old and totally adorable. A moth came in, and watching them chase it was both hilarious and adorable. They didn't catch it, but they're still half looking for it to come back. I can tell.
Tomorrow we head off to Cape Cod, another place I've never been. We're taking the ferry to Provincetown (yay boats!) and spending the night at an inn. I won't be bringing the laptop, so I'll bid you all adieu for the next couple of days. Adieu!

There's only one today, and it's not even my cat, but it was too adorable not to share. This is my MiL's cat, Peaches, on a rare foray into the house. Looks like she discovered the cat that's allowed to live inside...

Actually, Tori was getting up off the white sofa, and Lexi was sitting on the ottoman, which was covered by a black comforter. But something went wrong with the exposure, so everything but Lexi, the comforter, and Tori's stripes disappeared into white nothingness. Pretty cool, huh? Yesterday afternoon, right after I wrote my last LJ entry, I headed downstairs. Once there, I was assaulted by an image of unimaginable cuteness -- two kitties, sleeping together on the couch; naturally, I turned around, went back up the stairs and began my quest for a camera. T had taken his new point-and-shoot with him; the SLR was here, but I didn't trust myself with that one. So I pulled out the old point-and-shoot, which isn't guaranteed to work on any given day. I crossed my fingers, turned it on... and got lucky.

Thanks to
bottle_of_shine for pointing me at an article about the grammatical constructions of cat macros.
It's a superficial look at the topic but the implications are fascinating.
Also, cute pictures, so how can you go wrong?
Edited: Okay, this is the funniest thing I've seen in ages. The Trouble with Tribbles in lolcats speak. Link via SE.

So Tori has taken to eating T's shoelaces.
( I've never seen anything quite like it. )
Not on any of the other shoes, just the athletic shoes. I don't know whether she's actually eating the shoelace bits or just gnawing through them, although I did find one shoelace end on the floor this morning. Something to worry about? Any way to stop it, other than storing the shoes out of her reach? It's not like they don't have enough toys, or that they don't like them. More fiber in her diet? Hmm.
She also gnawed through the wire on the Christmas lights that we'd had hanging off the mezzanine (while they were off, fortunately). I knew my instincts were right, that they weren't ready for a tree yet. Maybe in a few years.

Actually, there was some productivity. I did my shoulder excerises (well, one round anyway, still have to do the evening and night sets), T did laundry, and we finally hung the Christo print.
( He had some help with that. )
But mostly, we've been playing FFXII. I won't get into any real discussion, except to say: Quickenings. I vote yes. Also, T is downstairs leveling like mad as we speak. (Well, actually he's on the prowl for money. Every time we play a game like this, I am reminded of how much a capitalist he can be...)
The cats have become thoroughly engrossed with my physical therapy. The therabands are a source of endless fascination. They watch, rapt, as I go through my stretches, and then try to bat or bite at them. Sort of cute, sort of annoying. One older theraband actually broke because they were pulling on it. Tori ran off with a little tiny piece and ate it before I could stop her. Still trying to decide how worried to be about that. She seems fine, but I have a tendency to be paranoid about stuff like that. Best I can do is keep an eye on her, I suppose.

I just realized that today is the first anniversary of Kitten Day!
Of course, they are clearly cats now, as the pictures below will most definitely show. Especially if you compare them to the photos in the link above.
( The last two are especially for anzubird. )
A few other new photos in the Scrapbook gallery, along with these in larger versions. I really can't believe they've been part of our lives for a year. Sometimes it seems like they just showed up yesterday; other days it's as though they've always been here.
