2007 approaches

Since I know the magic hour has already passed for more than one of you, and I'm leaving for my own festivities fairly soon, I wanted to wish you all Happy New Year now.

2006 was an odd year, full of highs and lows. But many of those highs and lows were vicarious. So much upheaval among friends and family and the world at large this year, some of it positive, some not. So even when my own life was on an even keel, I felt it. Of course I went through changes as well, the new job being the most significant of them. This was unquestionably a change for the better; no matter what I may say sometimes, despite all the stresses that have come along with it, this job is where I belong right now. But in the grand scheme, that change was minor. I haven't moved, my marriage remains happy and stable, no real health problems, my friends continue to be a source of all things good. Life carries on, and I am content. Can't ask for much more than that, really.

One thing did happen in 2006: I met a lot of people online. I think a good third of the people on my friends list are folks I'd never even met before last year. Getting to know folks on LJ and becoming more deeply involved in fandom has been a hell of a ride, speaking of highs and lows, but the highs continue to far outweigh the lows and I'm so glad I started actually talking to people. You guys are the best and I enjoy and appreciate you all.

I really don't know what next year will bring, good or bad. But if past experience is any guide, I'd bet that, at the very least, it won't be dull.

So, best wishes to all of you. Enjoy your New Year's Eve, however you spend it, and I hope you all have the best 2007 imaginable.
