dinner for four

So we were getting ready to cook dinner when the phone rings and it's E, asking what we were up to. It's not unusual for him to call for last minute dinner plans on a Sunday evening, and I always feel bad turning him down. "We were about to make dinner and we have a hunk of meat that needs to be cooked," I replied apologetically.

"So we should just go home then?" he responded.

Turns out he and S were in the city for a technology exhibition at Fort Mason. After consulting with T, I invited them over to help us eat our roast beast. They picked up salad fixings, bread, and dessert, and we had an impromptu dinner party. Good food, good company. We almost never have folks over for dinner but I always enjoy it when we do. There's something I find quite satisfying about the communal preparation and consumption of a meal. It's something we should do more often.
