I also wrote three stories for Trick or Treat, but two of those stories are linked above, and the third is a comment fic, linked below.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?

Less, definitely, although as with last year, not as much less as I would have thought. Largely thanks to the creative outburst sparked by ff_exchange.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2009?

Paine/Sephiroth, anyone? I mean, seriously. It's not even close.

As for fandom, I think it's safe to say that I didn't expect at all to get as into writing FFXII as I did, and I definitely didn't expect so much of it to center around Ashe. But somehow, her POV is the one that I'm settling into writing most often, and most comfortably.

What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?

That's a tough one, because I'm actually pretty happy with my output this year. Not the amount, but the quality I was able to pull off. Maybe "Political Considerations".

Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?

Playing with crazy crossovers for Trick or Treat gave me a chance to cut loose in a way I almost never do. Writing explicit slash, both m/m and f/f, forced me to push my boundaries in a way that I think was helpful, too. And finally jumping in to FFXII, rather than dancing around with battlefics, gave me the confidence that yes, I can write in more than one universe.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?

I'm pretty tired of putting "finish 'Aftermath'" here. Tired enough to actually finish it this year? God, I hope so. Also, I have, as threatened, signed up for getyourwordsout, at the 200,000 level. In all honesty, if I get halfway there, I'll probably be content, but I certainly plan to try for the full 200k.

From my past year of writing, what was...

My Favorite Story: Hard call, but I'll say "Political Considerations".

My Best Story: For once, I have a pick: "Elemental". It came together almost perfectly, and the feedback bears that up.

Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe: I'm tempted to say "Lines of Communication"; however, it was highly appreciated by pearlrose86, and in the end, that's all that matters. :)

Most Fun: "Underestimated". Pulling together "The Pursuit of Happiness" was also a great deal of fun.

Most Disappointing: Not getting even another chapter done on "Aftermath".

Sexiest: Probably "Getting Rest", although I'm still not completely certain of that story.

Story with a Single Sexy Moment: Ashe giving Balthier the what-for in "Political Considerations".

Hardest to Write: "Getting Rest", hands down.

Most Unintentionally Telling: You know, I'm not really sure. You guys pick.

Lines of Communication was ridiculously under appreciated, but I still really appreciate it. So call it overcompensation? ;D

Interesting review though... I thought I'd read all of your stuff, but there are a few things in here I seemed to have overlooked (or at least, want to re-read). FFEX was actually pretty good for my output this year as well. I'm excited that they're planning another one fairly soon.

And I appreciate your appreciation!! :D

Some of these stories are battle stories and other things not posted here that I never really publicized in my journal, so I'm not surprised if you missed a few. I really like doing a wrap-up like this; it helps me keep track of what I've been doing. And I'm also looking forward to a new round of FFEX sooner rather than later! Maybe if it's earlier in the year, it'll carry the activity through longer, too.

Ah. I'm looking forward to looking into some of the stuff I've missed.

I know FFEX, along with the FFXII playthrough kept the momentum going through for me for most of the summer. I'm hoping the release of FFXIII and this Exchange earlier in the year will help keep fandom interested. I was so impressed with the input from the Exchange this year, and I really hope having another Exchange sooner rather than later will help keep the creative output for the fandom as a whole. I'm really impressed with a lot of the quality present in Final Fantasy fans as a whole... especially as a result of FFEX.
