Interests meme: Look at your LJ interests list. If you have fewer than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much.
Bryn Mawr - I got my undergraduate degree (urban studies with a minor in math) at Bryn Mawr. The place and the people there shaped who I am in so many ways -- intellectually, of course, but also emotionally, socially... I am a Mawrter, and it's one of the things that most defines my identity. I made many close friends there and have stayed in close touch with several, and I value those relationships highly. I've also made many friends in the alumnae community, which is another of my greatest joys. The opportunity to meet and get to know women of all ages and from all walks of life is an incredible thing, and it's all because of Bryn Mawr. (It occurs to me that I'm assuming that everyone reading this knows what Bryn Mawr is, and maybe I shouldn't. Bryn Mawr is a small, liberal arts women's college in the suburbs of Philadelphia, one of the Seven Sisters.)
Final Fantasy - A series of role-playing games. The first video game I ever played was Final Fantasy X, and it hooked me on the series, the genre, and video games in general (I also play some platform games -- Ratchet and Clank, Kingdom Hearts; I await KH 2 with bated breath). I am a paper and dice role player from way back, so that's part of it, but mostly I like watching a long, complex story unfold. It's like watching a 60-hour movie. FF X still my favorite; I've played it through at least three times and parts of it much more than that. I've also played Five, Seven (and I really don't see what the fuss is about; I found the story incomprehensible and the hero wooden; maybe I came to it too late), Eight, Nine, and X-2 (which I think gets a bad rap).
Politics - Always been fascinated by them. Lately it's been more the fascination of watching a train wreck. My father is a polticial junkie, passionately Democratic, and so politics were often a topic of discussion in my home. Since college, I've fallen in with a group of friends who are knowledgeable about politics and love to discuss and debate them. I would keep up anyway, but that provides me with extra incentive to know what I'm talking about.
Tea - In college, my friend JR was a collector of tea. She had a supply and variety that was astonishingly large for a dorm room, and almost every night we would all take a study break and gather there for tea, conversation, and silliness. I got to sample many different kinds of tea in this way and developed very particular tastes. I enjoy a good cup of coffee, but tea is really my first love, and most mornings it is my beverage of choice. I also enjoy going to high tea. It's such a civilized way to spend an afternoon: sipping tea, eating scones and little sandwiches with interesting fillings and delicate pastries, having relaxed conversation with companions.
Writing - Do I really have to explain this one? :D Anyone who's been reading my journal for five minutes knows that writing is currently my most cherished hobby. Well, I've already gone into excruciating detail about this in the past. If you want to know more, read this entry. Then read this one.
