Un meme

I haven't been memeing very much lately, and this one appeals to me, so here you go. I've seen it in several places now, but most recently ganked from [personal profile] mako_lies.

Name two (or more) characters from any of my fandoms (see interests for a semi-complete list; no crossovers, please) and I'll tell you:

1. What they most commonly do during sex (if they are the sexing type)
2. Who has prettier (or just more attractive) hair
3. What they argue about most often
4. Who'd cope best if the other one died
5. The happiest plausible happily-ever-after I can think of for them
6. The most tragic possible ending for them
7. What I enjoy most about their dynamic
8. What I find difficult to write about them

Should have figured this was coming. ;)

1. Not so much with the sex with these two, at least not for me. Maybe some UST, especially Kinoc >> Auron, but that's about it.

2. Auron, beyond a doubt. Even when Kinoc still had hair, it could never compare to Auron's flowing black locks.

3. The future of Yevon, and whether or not it should change with the times. Funnily enough, it was always Kinoc who argued for change, and Auron who took the traditionalist positions.

4. Kinoc. He's much more of a pragmatist about that sort of thing. He did, in fact, believe that Auron was dead (or as good as, anyway) for ten years, and although he was sad, there was a part of him relieved to lose a potential rival.

5. In canon, or AU? Because if we're sticking to canon, boy, I dunno. I don't know if a plausible happily ever after is in reach, unless they meet on the Farplane and have a good long talk that heals all the old wounds.

But if we can play in AUs, I don't think there's much question: Kinoc is Grand Maester and Auron is the Maester in charge of the military. Of course, I don't know how much of a happily ever after that would be for Spira...

6. I'm having a harder time thinking of an ending more tragic than the one we got, really -- Kinoc leading Auron to his execution, then dies before they can resolve anything.

7. I've talked about this before, I think, but I'm always happy to do so again. ;) I am totally fascinated by their past: they were friends, and now they are not, but there is clearly a depth of feeling between them. The best friends make the worst enemies, but how did it happen? Coming up with an answer to that question was a huge driver behind my writing of A Guardian's Legacy.

8. Although I haven't written them together in ages, it always comes really easily when I do. But I haven't written them because, after having written an epic story largely about their friendship, it's hard to come up with new angles that I want to write about. So maybe that's my answer.

You know, I do love your idea of young!Auron as a traditionalist. It's something I hadn't considered with him, but it makes so much sense. It's also a interesting and surprising element in potential Auron and Kinoc scenes, given that we know Kinoc as a slimy Yevonite and Auron as the rebel shepherding the kids to bring down the system.

May I make a list? XD

Baralai/Lulu (to start). ;3

1. I have a hard time seeing them together romantically, really. Largely because of Lulu's canonical relationship with Wakka, but also just personality-wise. Although Ikon and I did make them friendly in DSHnD.

2. Oh boy, this is a hard one. But I think I have to go with Lulu - Baralai's white hair is appealing, but it just can't compare.

3. How much Yuna should be involved in the future of Spira. Baralai wants her to step up and lead; Lulu thinks she should be able to retire to a quiet life. (Left out of this, naturally, is the question of what Yuna *actually wants*. But in true Yuna fashion, she isn't always really sure...)

4. I'm not really sure; I think they'd both be sorry to see the other go, but not be too broken up about it. If they did end up in a relationship somehow? I think Lulu would carry on better, if only because she's had to deal with losing so many people in her life.

5. This would have to be an AU, or somehow Wakka is out of the picture, an amicable split ideally. Getting Lulu to Bevelle or Baralai to Besaid would seem to be the biggest obstacle, since they are in really different places with who they are and what they want. Maybe they settle in Luca as a compromise.

6. They attempt the compromise, and it fails utterly.

7 & 8. Since I've never really written them together, I can only really speculate. But I have a feeling that getting them to communicate effectively would be the biggest difficult, and it would be interesting to explore their feeling about the fall of Yevon, how differently they've reacted to the changes.

Thank you! Baralai/Lulu was outrageous to begin with, but I wanted to challenge your expansive imagination! XD

(That, and in an AR fic with a fellow Baralai/Yuna writer and close friend [where Baralai becomes Yuna's Guardian and travels with her party], we had entertained the thought of Lulu and Baralai, since Tidus and Yuna's love interests are played around with.)

I'm very pleased with what you came up with. You did better than what I could possibly imagine. Intriguing, but a pair impossible to see happen. Thank you for taking the time. :3

Oh, oh! And Tidus/Paine! :D
Sep. 14th, 2011 03:31 am (UTC)
I fear I'm going to have to pass on this one. Baralai and Lulu have enough broad connections that I was able to come up with some thoughts, but Tidus and Paine just aren't coming together in my mind this way, at all. Sorry! What do you find interesting about the possibility?
Sep. 14th, 2011 04:08 am (UTC)
Well, unlike Baralai and Lulu,
Tidus and Paine are the type to travel a lot, if not are constantly on the move; Tidus with his blitzball profession and Paine as the lone warrior.

Also, Yuna and Tidus's relationship can easily be compromised if you use the imagination (unlike Lulu and Wakka's). Realistically speaking, for many reasons I don't feel like getting into.

Apart from that, in terms of chemistry, I see them getting along. They would connect through their weapon of choice. Paine's personality resembles Auron and Tidus would be drawn to her (since he's had a positive paternal relationship with Auron). I forgot what that psychological theory was called... You know which one I'm talking about, right?

Anyway. I believe Tidus would be more compatible with a girl who's more down-to-earth, someone who doesn't believe his white lies at face value.

I wish I can provide a stronger argument, but I'm rather sleepy. XD

I present to you the list (which you can tackle another day; don't feel the need to rush yourself. ;3).

Baralai/LeBlanc (LOL)

I'll attempt to work my way down this list but I can't promise I'll do them all... but I am happy to meta about Baralai/Yuna anytime!

1. Maybe it's boring of me to picture them as a fairly vanilla couple in this respect, but I do.

2. Hmm, hard call. I like them both, but they're so different. Maybe Baralai gets the edge for having hair that's more striking.

3. Baralai nudges Yuna to get more involved in Spiran politics. Yuna resists.

4. Baralai, no question. Yuna's already gone through losing the man she loves once, and she really isn't ready to face that again.

5. Yuna accepts that Tidus is gone and cautiously lets herself fall for Baralai. The two of them form a strong partnership and lead Spira into a bright future that lasts for another thousand years.

6. Yuna does not accept that Tidus is gone and spends the rest of her life in a fruitless search for him while Baralai pines away.

7. I like that they are both strong, but a quiet strength. And she could moderate his temper and ambition while he encourages her to put herself forward a little more.

8. I can only picture Yunalai in a future without Tidus, and sometimes it can be hard to wrap my head around that ending to FFX-2 canon.

Idk if you've *ever* written them together, but how about Auron & Lulu?
Sep. 14th, 2011 08:46 pm (UTC)
A couple of shorts, but not really. But I like the concept, so here goes!

1. Assuming they are a couple -- and if I can see FFX-era Auron hooking up with anyone, it is Lulu -- I see a lot of quick intense couplings, late at night when they think the rest of the party is asleep or not paying attention, not much time for exploration or leisure. Quick and dirty... and hot. >.>

2. Lulu's hair always wins.

3. During the time they could be together in canon? Probably not much, since the main thing Auron would like to argue about -- whether they should go through with the Final Summoning -- is something he is most firmly biting his tongue not to discuss.

4. Hmm, I guess Auron. Since being dead probably gives you a much more zen perspective on the cycle of life.

5. They're pretty much doomed canonically, I'd have to think. Maybe an AU in which Auron somehow got to the dream Zanarkand without dying and the rest of canon happens, but he gets to stay and enjoy the Eternal Calm with everyone else, and he and Lulu get together and move back to Besaid for a happy, peaceful life.

6. Yuna goes through with the Final Summoning and chooses Lulu for her aeon; Auron is so upset by this that he loses focus as an unsent and devolves into a powerful fiend, and between his rampages and Lulu becoming Sin, they pound Spira into dust.

7. Two weary warriors, leading their protege to save the world? What's not to love?

8. The same problem I have writing Auron into any pairing during FFX canon -- he's so focused on his purpose, why would he take out time to have a romance?
